Separator Control

The Separator control adds a horizontal dividing line inside a task, to visually separate one group of controls from another.

It is the simplest control in CheckFlow: it displays a line, and it has no settings at all.

Use it to give structure to a task that contains a lot of controls — for example separating Customer Details from Site Details from Sign-off. Pairing a Separator with a Text control as a heading is an effective way to break a long task into readable sections.

Add to the Template

The Separator control can be added from the controls toolbar in the Template.

It appears immediately as a horizontal line. There is nothing to configure — no label, no settings. Drag and drop it to position it between the controls you want to separate, exactly as you would any other control.

Use in the Checklist

The Separator displays as a horizontal dividing line, exactly as it appears in the template. It is read-only, there is nothing for the user to interact with, and it never blocks task completion.

Limits

The Separator control has no settings, and therefore no limits. There is no restriction on the number of Separators in a task.

Notes and Limitations

Because it holds no user input, the Separator does not appear in Reports, cannot be the source of a Conditional Logic rule, and cannot be used as a Dynamic Value.

It can still be shown or hidden by a condition driven by another control, so a Separator that belongs to an optional section disappears along with it.

The content settings menu offers a Tooltip option on every control, including the Separator, but because a Separator draws nothing more than a line there is no label for the tooltip icon to attach to — it will not be displayed. Put the tooltip on one of the controls in the section instead.

note

If you want to split content across a heading with its own title, consider whether the material would be better as two separate tasks rather than one long task divided by Separators. Separate tasks can be assigned, completed and reported on individually.

The Separator cannot take part in a Linked Checklist control mapping, as either the parent or the child side.

  • Text — pairs with a Separator to give a section a title.
  • Create, Edit and Delete Tasks — when a long task divided by Separators would be better as several tasks.
  • Tooltips — the one control setting a Separator cannot use.
